Monday, October 16th, United Blood Services had a blood drive at our high school. Hana Hogan and I, attended this event and interviewed donors and the workers.

I interviewed Amy Moorhaed. Through the company, she’s a donor care specialist but is a phlebotomist, licensed through the state of Nevada. We asked Amy where the blood will go after our peers donate, she responded, “The blood goes to the hospitals all around the Eastern Nevada and Eastern California or anywhere blood is needed.”

We asked what the expectations are for the amount of blood you are receiving today. She replied with “Every blood drive has a different projection but it mainly depends on the population of schools.” She said there are about the same donors as last year.

Next, I interviewed two donors, Justin Yates and Hunter Waasdorp. Hunter said he participated in the event to save lives, Justin said he wanted to help the people of Vegas. I asked how their experience was and to tell me a little about it. Hunter stated, “It was definitely interesting, especially when the lady missed my vein like three times.”

Senior Justin Yate’s experience was “Pretty funny, Thanks to Dan. He was just a funny guy and admitted to pressing the wrong button.”

The donors both said they would participate in this event again because Hunter feels like he can change someone’s life by donating blood, and Justin wants to help save more lives.
