Fresno Christian held a 2-0 lead Tuesday when a Bronco and a Fresno Christian athlete had a head-to-head collision. Play was stopped, and both athletes needed to be transported for medical care. Trailing 2-0, the Broncos made the difficult decision to concede the game.
Senior Jessica Santana said, “Seeing our teammate in such pain and taken away in the ambulance, I knew we didn’t want to continue.”
The head-to-head collision occurred at midfield as both athletes attempted to head the ball. Both athletes were treated and released.
The incident occurred in the first half at Sunnyside High School in Fresno. The Eagles will now advance to the CIF Semifinals.
The loss ends the Broncos’ season with an overall record 19-6-2 and 12-1-1 in the High Desert league. Bishop finished as HDL champions.
