JV Mathletes Win Their Last Meet

We traveled to Silver Valley on January 31st, 2024, and challenged both ourselves and 6 other teams in the showdown
JV+Mathletes+Win+Their+Last+Meet

Our last meet! In the end, we scored 25 points, putting us
in first place! Tehachapi was in second place with 19 points, Rosamond was third with 8 points,
Boron and Silver Valley tied for fourth with 7, Desert High School took fifth place with 2 points,
and Desert Christian was last with 1 point. After taking second place in every meet up to this
point, we were so proud and excited to have been in first place in this final meet!!
At the meet, the JV Mathletes had to solve 10 difficult individual problems, one of which was:
10. If x and y are two-digit numbers where y is obtained by reversing the digits of x, and x 2- y 2 =495, find x and y. (This might not look too hard, but we couldn’t use a calculator!)

As for individual awards, 6 Mathletes took home a ribbon. Bryce Cokeley won a 1st place ribbon
with 8 points, Sydney Wilson and Josef Borow won third place with 5 points, and Caleb Fitt,
Bennett Rowan and Adan Perez got fourth-place ribbons with 4 points.
The JV team has 15 Mathletes: captains Sydney Wilson, Caleb Fitt, and Adan Perez,
sophomores Madi Benninger, Josef Borow, Bryce Cokeley, Taylor Currie, Kano Graves,
Donovan Mondragon, Teagan Orr, Ben Rowan, and freshman Scarlett Buchholz, Reagan
Dermody, Sydney Garcia, Clare Haverstock. Coach Buchholz says, “Great season JV! We
ended the season at our peak taking home our first Meet win and overall 2nd place in the
league. I am so proud and look forward to next year!”
