On January 17, 2024, the BUHS Varsity Mathletes traveled four hours to Rosamond and competed against 6 other schools in a competition of intelligence and skill. They left victorious, having won first place with 34 points! They were 13 points ahead of the second place team, Tehachapi, who scored 21 points. In third was Silver Valley with 16 points, then Boron with 9, Rosamond with 7, and Desert High with 4 points. Overall, a very successful meet!
One of the very difficult math problems they had to solve was: 2. A pendulum 50 cm long is moved 26 degrees from the vertical. To the nearest hundredth, how much is the lower end of the pendulum raised? As for individual awards, Sam Wilson took home a first place ribbon with 8 points, Ashley Fitt, Alyssa Buchholz, and Cooper Beard tied for second place with 6 points, and Audrey Cokely won third with 5 points. Also competing for the team was Anwyn Benson Hernandez, Jodie Bedore, Hunter Dermody, Sabrina Elwell, and Jordan Lemons.
Coach DeeDee Buchholz declares, “This Varsity team is SO strong. They have earned 1stplace at each Meet this year. Be proud Bishop, these kids are intelligent, diligent, ambitious, and are extremely respectful. Great job team!”
