We started the year off extremely strong by snatching a victory, ending in
first place with 48 total points, only five points away from the total number of possible points! Tehachapi took second place with 35 points, and Silver Valley followed close behind
with 34 points, putting them in third place.
While they were competing, the Mathletes had to answer 10 difficult questions, with one
example being:
7. Solve log(4x – 3) = 2
But despite these hardships, they pulled through and came out on top!
Each of the Varsity Regulars won an individual ribbon for themselves. Alyssa Buchholz, a junior
at BUHS, earned a perfect individual score of 10, the only one to do so! Following close behind
her, Samuel Wilson, Audrey Cokeley, and Cooper Beard, all Regulars, took second place with a
tied score of 9. Coming in third was Ashley Fitt, with 8 points total! Alternates Jodie Bedore, Ellie
Crall, and Hunter Dermody all earned 9 points as well. Also competing for the team were Kate
Anderson, Anwyn Benson Hernandez, Alexander Adkins, Sabrina Elwell, and Sydney Norcross.
BUHS Varsity Mathletes coach, DeeDee Buchholz, says “This was the highest score of any
BUHS Mathletes team since I started coaching the teams. Scoring 48/53 is truly unheard of in
this league. Congratulations to the Mathletes for working hard and taking home a gigantic
victory for Bishop! I am so darn proud of you all!!!!”
The next Varsity Mathletes meet will be in Silver Valley on October 18th, 2023.
