Hello everyone, my name is Kaytlynn Michelle Johnston I am Paiute, I come from where the water flows in Bishop California. I am 17 years old, I attend Bishop Union High School in Bishop, CA, where I am a Senior. I am a lifelong resident of Bishop California and a proud member of the Bishop Paiute Tribe. I am the Pacific Region Representative for UNITY, Female Co President of the Bishop Tribal Youth Council, and Miss Nevada Days Powwow Princess. I am the daughter of Carrie Brown and Tony Brown and I have (4) siblings. I am the middle child, my older sister is Leticia Gonzales, my older brother is Carlos Gonzales Jr. My younger sister is Ashley Johnston, and our youngest sibling is our brother George Brown.

This past week I had the opportunity to attend the 2023 UNITY (United National Indian Tribal Youth) Midyear Conference in Tempe, Arizona. The UNITY Midyear Conference started with pre-conference activities. Myself as well as 2 youth from the Bishop Tribal Youth Council , Wasüya Martinez, and Evan Fuller had the opportunity to attend the ASU Communications Camp, We got to learn about producing media, and audio onto professional quality videos that everyone at the conference got to watch all week. We also attended the business meeting where the NUC representatives and the UNITY Executive Committee got to discuss important topics and discussed what the different youth councils were doing in their communities.

Overall I had an amazing time at the UNITY Midyear Conference, getting to meet new youth from the Pacific Region, Getting to participate in the UNITY round dance, and get the chance to represent the Bishop Paiute Tribe on a National Level. Next up we will be attending the National UNITY Conference in Washington DC in July 2023!
