Bronco Senior Katy Johnston Getting Once In A Lifetime Opportunities

Katy Johnston Bishop Union High School Senior will be attending a UNITY conference held at Washington D.C in The White House. Katy and 13 other young adults will be traveling to The White House on November 13, 2022.

 

What was the award you won in debt? 

Katy is the pacific region representative for UNITY. UNITY (unity stands for united national tribal youth it’s a nonprofit organization) getting the opportunity to represent all California and Hawaiian native youth. This is Katy’s second term being the pacific representative, the first term she was elected in Dallas Texas, and this year she was elected in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Over this past school year, she’s had amazing opportunities to represent the bishop, and the bishop Paiute tribe well. She will be attending a White House Tribal Youth Forum, In Washington DC at the white house. While being at this youth forum, she will be learning about climate adaptation and resilience, mental health, food sovereignty and security, native language, and education. 

The current titles Kaytlynn holds are, The female co-president for the Bishop Tribal Youth Council, The Pacific Regional Representative for UNITY, GEN-1 Representative for CNAY, Newly Crowned 2022-2023 Miss Nevada Days 

How many other people won and where are they from?

UNITY was able to invite all of the executive committee members if they were able to complete a 300-word request essay, The executive council consists of 13 native youth voted in from their regions from across the united states. 

What are you most excited about when visiting the Whitehouse? 

“I’m most excited about getting this opportunity, to represent myself, my family, and my small town”

Who is your biggest inspiration?

“My biggest inspiration can’t really be one person, I think my mom motivates me to be the best me I can be. Although I believe that UNITY is my biggest inspiration, being able to have all of these amazing accomplishments and getting to meet native American idols of mine at UNITY conferences are just amazing.”
