Bronco Boys Win First Home Playoff Game

The Bronco baseball team kicked off their CIF journey with a 17-1 win over their rivals the Kern Valley Broncs, behind Senior Justin Yates’ start. The Broncos first inning started off pretty shaky with some uncharacteristic errors in the top half the inning that led to the Broncs scoring their only run of the game, but they came back and scored three runs in the bottom of the inning. After their rocky start on defense, the Broncos quickly got back into rhythm and held the Broncs scoreless for the rest of the game, thanks to solid defense and even better pitching. The highlight of the second inning was Brodie Maloney’s long three run “Bermuda Triangle” home run in their four run bottom of the second. The Broncos were held scoreless in the bottom of the third, but scored 2 in the bottom of the fourth, and four runs in the bottom of the fifth, and sixth, before getting the final out of the game.

Senior Justin Yates had a phenomenal start in his postseason outing of the year, going 6 innings, giving up just 3 hits, 1 unearned run, 1 walk, and getting 6 Ks while facing 25 batters. Junior Austin Thomas came on in relief, going 1 inning giving up a walk, and earning 2 Ks. The Broncos offensive MVP of the game is Brodie Maloney, who has been on a tear all year, going 5-5 with 7 RBIs, including his three run bomb. Junior Cal Omohundro also had a great day, going 4-4 with 4 RBIs, and a walk.

The Broncos will go on to play the Riverdale Cowboys this Tuesday at 3:00, in their last home game of the season, so wish them luck, and come out to support them!
