This past weekend, BUHS’s very own Honor Choir traveled down south to Anaheim to compete in Music in the Parks. If you’re not familiar with Music in the Parks, it is a day-long or two-day festival for student choral, orchestral, and band ensembles, held annually across the United States. Honor Choir had to work very hard to get there! We missed out on a whole semester of rehearsing because no one knew that it would even be coming back, success classes were happening, and homeroom provides only 30 minutes a day for rehearsal, and on Mondays, there was no rehearsal time. Through car washes and selling goodies, the Honor Choir was able to make it to competition.

For competition this year, Honor Choir sang Imagine by John Lennon for their warm up song, and Skyfall by Adele and Stand Together by Jim Papoulis for their competition pieces. In the end, Honor Choir ended up in 4th place with a rating of Excellent. Our total score was 86.5 points. This score is the highest score Honor choir has received since 2012. This rating is higher than the scores we got in previous years in which we took home firsts. Last year, Honor Choir took home first with just over 80 points. Honor Choir showed great growth, but this year, we were just up against 3 choirs who were tough competition. The choir that ended up beating us had .5 points higher than us.

Diana Lanane, the Honor Choir teacher, when asked about how she thought Honor Choir did at competition said that “They faced the toughest competitors they have ever faced. Some of them had only been in class and finished success for a maximum of ten rehearsals. These are some of the most impressive, hard working students I have ever worked with and I am proud and honored to be their teacher. Not only were they superior performers, they represented Bishop High with true Bronco Way spirit demonstrating that in Bishop, we have amazing students.” Honor Choir is back and here to stay!
