The Junior Varsity Mathletes took on another meet on January 10th at Trona High School, in what was their third meet of the 2017-2018 season. With a total of 24 points, they scored a second place finish and an impressive three individual placings! 42 students attended this meet, but that didn’t stop our Mathletes from their high scores.

Rachel Fitt contributed a top score for her team of 6 points, therefore placing 2nd individually. Following her, Scott Hennarty scored 5 points and 3rd place, and Clara Place scored 4 points and 4th place. Ace Selters, Sierra Burror, Lauren Wesling, Abigail Ball, and Nick Jacobs also contributed to their team score.

Each meet comes with its own unique set of challenging problems. Check out a problem from the 3rd round of this meet:

Three pumpkins are weighed 2 at a time in all possible ways. The weights of the pairs are 12 kg, 13 kg, and 15 kg. How many kilograms does the lightest pumpkin weigh?

The Junior Varsity’s final meet of the year will be at Boron High School on February 14!
