Bishop High’s Wrestling Team Will Have Their First Home Meet this Thursday

This Thursday will be the wrestling team’s first home meet in three years. The meet will be against Desert high school in the east gym at 5 pm. Coach Mark Hodges, the head coach of the wrestling team, will have free flyers explaining how the matches are run and how scoring occurs. There is no entry fee so be sure to come support the Bronco Wrestling team in their first home meet.

Here are a few words from head coach Mark Hodges who gives some of the basic information about this duel meet and how they work.

“There are 14 weight classes in wrestling. When two wrestlers compete, it is called a match. When two teams compete, it is called a dual meet. When multiple teams compete, it can be a dual meet tournament or an individual tournament. The meet will start with a random draw of the starting weight.”

“Each match can score 3, 4, 5 or 6 team points”
Scoring Summary for Team Scoring:
Fall, Disqualification 6pts
Technical Fall (15pt differential) 5pts
Major Decision (8-14pt differential) 4pts
Decision (1-7pt differential) 3pts
“If a team has a wrestler, but no opponent to wrestle, the team scores as if it is a pin.”

“Our wrestling team consists of eight wrestlers and
all except for Mark Mayhugh are first year wrestlers:”
