Profile on Ms. Owens

Ms. Owens is the Computer design/Com Art teacher, she has been teaching for three years and here are some questions that may introduce who she is.

1.)What College did you attend?

“For my BA in Art I attended San Diego State University. It was a great experience and I enjoyed my whole learning experience.  If I could do it again, I would have chosen Santa Cruz because of their artistic and natural campus atmosphere.”

2.)What was your interest in moving to mammoth?

“Leaving a beach community I had to move to a place full of fun and adventure.  Mammoth has a convenient community and plenty of outdoor activities.  I also wanted to be in the elements; coming from 7 years of working at a desk, there was nothing I wanted more then to be outside, in the sun or snow, working hard….that’s why I started instructing snowboarding right away.”

3.)Why did you become a teacher?

“I’ve always known I wanted to teach, in hopes of inspiring and being a positive part of the lives of others I have spent years navigating the path towards teaching.  Art is a great subject because I have the opportunity to encourage students to reflect inward, create a representation of their thoughts and feelings in their minds, then produce their vision in many different and interesting ways.”

4.)When did you have that passion for Art?

“I’ve been practicing art since I was a little girl.  It was always a challenge that I enjoyed figuring out.  In college, while receiving formal training, I began to enjoy art much more. I realized I could create art that had meaning to myself and others. I loved that I could inspire and encourage viewers, as well as influence opinions or values with something as simple as paint and pen; that made art worth pursuing. “

7.)What was your most memorable project?

“Painting a mural in the Fire Station, a big 30 foot American Flag.”

8.)Do you have any activities that you enjoy doing?

“I enjoy Skiing and Snowboarding.”
