Bishop Bronco Varsity football team kicks off their home schedule with a big win at John Schwab field.  This past Friday night the Broncos notched a 57-0 win against the Yosemite Badgers. The win Friday night improves the Broncos record to 2-0 as the Bronco Varsity won their opener on the road at Lindsay on August 19th 36-3.

The defense recorded their first shutout of 2022 led by senior defensive lineman Kaelan Smith who had 2 sacks and a fumble recovery. Wes Jorgensen and Reece Dondero also had sacks. Senior Linebacker Jayda Jackson had her best game as a Bronco with a tackle for a loss and a fumble recovery. Cheveyo Marquez and Milton Michel both had interceptions.

Cheveyo Marquez led the Bronco rushing attack with 113 yards on 7 carries. Quarterback Boden St. Marie added 79 yards on 9 carries. Marquez, St. Marie and junior Kaleb Brooks each had a rushing touchdown. Junior Austin Powell made the most of his 6 carries racking up 55 yards and 3 touchdowns. Senior Albert Cano had another strong game with three solo tackles on defense, 30 rushing yards on 3 carries and returned a punt 69 yards for a touchdown. Cano has a punt return touchdown in each of the Broncos first two games.

Next up for the Broncos is a home game with Fernley. Varsity kick off is set for 7pm at John Schwab field. After this week the Broncos will be on the road for the next 4 games before returning home on October 14th to face rival Kern Valley.
