It’s Deja Vu All Over Again for the Broncos

The Bishop Bronco baseball season was closed out in the CIF Central Section 1st round Monday, just like their basketball and football counterparts.  The Broncos lost 8-2 to Garces in the CIF Division 4 playoffs.  This 2021-2022 playoff cycle has not been friendly to the Broncos who are accustomed to making deep playoff runs, including section championships in baseball and football in recent years.

This year the Broncos were bumped up to division 4 in all three major sports only to fall in the first round, baseball and basketball dropping games to Garces and football falling to Tehachapi. Garces went on to win the Division 4 championship in Basketball topping HDL’s Rosamond.  The Garces baseball team will try to equal that accomplishment as they move onto the next round facing the winner of today’s matchup of Wasco and Independence.

In Monday’s game, Garces opened up a 5-0 lead after five innings with the Broncos then breaking through for a pair of runs in the bottom of the 6th putting the game within reach at 5-2.  Garces added three insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning and closed out the Broncos in order in the bottom of the 7th winning by a final of 8-2.

The game marked the final game for 4 seniors, Acie Valdivia, Kennedy Batchelder, Jake Frigerio, and Hector Martinez. In his final match, Frigerio went 2 for 3, scored a run, and stole 4 bases.  Batchelder went 1 for 3 with Juniors Albert Cano and Riley Eropkin also collecting hits. Cain Omohundro drove in a run for the Broncos.
