Bishop Union High School JV Baseball Starts Season at Frigid Yerington

Bishop Union High School JV baseball has started at Yerington with a tournament consisting of 4 games, where the Broncos won versus Truckee by a final score of 5-3, but then lost against Spring Creek, Lassen, and Yerington. The weather was noticeably chillier than normal, with a low of 32°F and a moderate amount of snow during the game.

“It was so cold we needed hand warmers,” Birch Ray said. “There was so much snow it was hard to see the ball for the last half of the game [on] Saturday.”

In game 1 against Spring Creek, Jamison Wolfe collected 2 hits, drove in a run, and scored a run.  Andrew Rosga, Nello Tague, Jo Jo Bachoch, Victor Esparza, and Blaise Lemons all collected hits.  

During game 2 under the lights against Lassen, Andrew Rosga did an outstanding job at pitching with 2 strikeouts. 

Game 3 started strong and finished strong with Pitcher, Noah Cathy collecting a total of 5 strikeouts during the game. Victor Esparza, Jamison Wolfe, Noah Cathy, and Dariaus Fierro all got one RBI during the game helping the team get 4 out of the 5 runs, while the last run was caused because of a back.

In game 4, Victor Esparza and Birch Ray both got one RBI during the game, and Jamison Wolfe earning two RBIs.

The tournament was played under time restrictions with games limited to 90 minutes. The weekend games marked the start of coach Brandon Helmbolts’ career as the head JV coach for Bishop Union.  Next up the Broncos will travel to Ridgecrest for a game with Burroughs high this Wednesday.
