Homecoming From an Introvert’s Perspective

I did not go to homecoming this year. I am an introverted person and I really don’t like the idea of going to a stuffy dance with tons of people and loud music blaring. For extroverts, this is an ideal environment that they can feed energy off of. For me, I just feel drained and want to go home as the night goes on. I did go to homecoming for the past two years, but I never really had any fun so I figured I would sit this one out. Last year, homecoming was on Halloween so I went dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow. I was the only one there in costume. Needless to say, I did not have much fun. I felt weird being the only person dressed up and I was sweaty and I never felt like dancing, so I left the dance early. To clear up a little common misconception about introverts, we actually DO like hanging out with people. We just prefer to hang out with smaller groups of people and in shorter amounts of time. After our social interaction, we need time to recharge. Homecoming is made out to be a right of passage for all high school kids to go through, but that’s not necessarily true. I just wish people wouldn’t act like I just admitted to committing a murder when I say I am not going to homecoming. Dances and parties just aren’t my cup of tea. So this homecoming, I stayed home and watched the amazing cinematic masterpiece that is Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I had a blast watching the beautiful Sebastian Stan play the Winter Soldier and that was my night. This is in no way a bash to any extroverts. If you love going to dances and being surrounded by people, that’s great! Just be aware that not everyone enjoys those things.
