Bishop Tennis hosted the individual CIF qualifying tournament on Thursday, with tennis players coming from from Rosamond, Bishop, Kern Valley and Desert, competing in singles and doubles in a single elimination tournament.

Tennis players from Bishop who qualified were seniors Madeline Tomasek, Ivy means and Evelyn  Lopez.  Juniors Lily McGrale and Cayley Dishion and sophomore Molly Foster.

Bishop’s Lily McGrale dominated her match with the number 1 singles player from Kern Valley, ending with a  15-13 tie-break. Coach Patty Cummings said, “what a battle,” and was extremely proud. She said, “It is supposed to be first to ten but you must win by two so every time Mcgrale was in trouble she bounced back and eventually defeated Kern Valley.”

Cayley Dishion fought hard, but was defeated by Makayla Forbes, ending her match with a score of 1-8.

As the tournament moved onto doubles, Coach Cummings said, “It was a tough draw for the doubles teams as they were paired up against the number 1 and number 2 seed in the tournament.”  Molly foster and Evelyn Lopez tried their very best, but were defeated 0-8. However, Coach Cummings said, “the score didn’t reflect how well the two broncos played.”

Seniors Madeline Tomasek and Ivy Means were extremely close to defeating to winning the number 2 doubles team from Rosamond, but they lost 7-9. Coach Patty addressed that, “It could have went either way, they just lost 7-9.”

The next tournament will be held in Bakersfield, and from Bishop will be playing, junior Lily Mcgrale, and if she wins, she will be playing in finals as well.
