No North Dakota Access Pipeline

What is the Dakota Access Pipeline?

The Dakota access pipeline is a pipeline that will transport crude oil from the Bakken/Three Forks play in North Dakota to a terminus in Illinois. The project will require the construction of approximately 1,172 miles of 12-inch to 30-inch diameter pipeline through the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Illinois terminating near Patoka, Illinois. Some of the projects highlights include: it’s anticipated to be fully functional by 2016, It will translate into millions in state and local revenues during the construction phase and an estimated $156 million in sales and income taxes, and create 8,000–12,000 construction jobs and up to 40 permanent operating jobs.

Protecting our water !

Student Insight.

Native people of America have traveled thousands of miles to protect mother earth and water sources. The DAPL was planning to run a crude oil pipeline throughout sacred grounds where the Standing Rock Sioux reservation is located.  The DOJ (Department of Justice) has ordered work on the pipeline to stop until further notice. Water is sacred and should be treated with respect. This water source is not only benefiting Native Americans but, non-natives. The protectors have not been violent and have been peacefully “protesting” (protecting). This movement has gathered many nations together at one camp, the sacred stone camp. Throughout the Owens Valley many of our local native american people went to North Dakota to give support. You can support in many ways just by sharing something on social media or just educating people about this issue.

What I have observed and heard about the North Dakota pipeline is there is a serious problem that will cost up to $3.8 billion that they are trying to put underneath clean water.  If that pipeline explodes it will ruin lots of economics systems.  This pipeline will ruin water, animals and people.  Our tribe and community need clean water to drink. It’s not just harming our Native Americans but every human being that is along the major river in the USA.  The pipeline will affect our future and everything that comes before it and after it.  They are not just protesters they are protectors.  They do not want a pipeline underneath the Missouri river because that is native land.  They are digging up and putting a pipeline under clean water that people drink all down the course of the river. It’s not just for Natives  sake it’s for people who all drink water.  We would rather have clean water then have a pipeline that ruins that for everyone.

This is such a serious business it’s different than just getting on the internet and never really see native issues going on because people do not talk about it I was surprised to see everyone coming together to protect the water that everyone drinks. I went on  to Facebook and seen that people who did and did not make it to North Dakota posting stuff the people who went had posted saying they posted the hold back to be on Friday they make the final decision. I also seen on Facebook when i was scrolling thru that a local woman had made it to the news and so has the native pipeline what she had said was “ there is no need for pepper spray and search dogs because they are not there to fight they are not protesters they are protectors Of the sacred water and they don’t need  to be treated like that”. 18 people have been arrested in Idaho for the support they have given to the tribe for having the freedom of speech.
