Tennis Takes The L In Their First League Match

The BUHS tennis team hosted the league opener against rival Kern Valley. The matchup was held on Tuesday, October 1 at the Bishop City Park.

“Kern Valley defeated Bishop 8-1 however, the match score did not reflect the closeness of some of the sets,” said coach Patty Cummings. The only game won by the Broncos was from singles player Brooke Winzenread.

The singles players were only able to pull out one win. Brooke Winzenread was the lone point scorer winning 6-4 and 6-1 in her sets. Jacee Carpenter was the second singles player and won her first set against KV 6-4. She then lost her second set 6-4 and had to play a 10 point tie-breaker with KV pulling ahead and winning 10-7. Madison Foster lost both of her sets 6-1 and 6-2. Then, Sydney McAdams played her singles game and lost 6-3 in her first set and 6-1 in her second. The final singles player was Hailey Bragdon. This was her first singles match of the year, but sadly she lost 6-1 in her first set and 6-3 in her second set.

Next up, the doubles teams lost all of their games. First up were Brooke Winzenread and Olivia Seitz losing 6-2 in their first set and then 6-4 in their second. Cheyenne Yeager and Jacee Carpenter played next and lost 6-3 in both sets. In Elizabeth Poncho and Madelyn Bigham’s game, they lost 7-5 in their first set and then battled hard but took fall, losing 6-4.

There were two exhibition double matches played. The first team was Rhianna Carter and Melissa Castro losing 6-0. The next team was Leslie Mena and Heaven Vitale losing 6-0 as well.

The Bishop Broncos Girls Tennis Team has an upcoming game this Thursday, October 3 at Desert. This will be their second league game of the season.
