Mathletes take 2nd place in a Showdown with Tehachapi

Richard Rubalcaba, writer

Broncos took second place in their first mathletes meet of the season.  Bishop finished second to Tehachapi by two points. The broncos that traveled to this showdown were Rachel Fitt, Scott Hennarty, Lauren Wesling, Clara Place, Ace Selters, Madison Foster, Taylor Dailey, Thomas Zentmyer, Cynthia Gonzalez, Jordan Lopez, Nick Jacobs, and Daillanna Paez.

The team Faced a Multitude of problems, but one that stuck out as hard was.

“4. The top and bottom of a 4″ tall can be removed. Then the can be squashed flat into a 4″ by 6″ rectangle. What was the volume of the can in in³?”

This was their first meet of the season and they scored 39 which put them in second place, in front of them was the Tehachapi Math team which scored 41 points. In Varsity Mathletes the awards were given out in this order. Scott Hennarty and Clara Place 1st, Rachel Fitt 2nd, Ace Selters 4th. The rest of the team didn’t get any awards, but they most certainly carried their entire team to second place. Mrs. Deidre Buchholz had this to say about her varsity mathletes “This was a great first Meet!  The kids studied hard and it paid off.  This is the largest Varsity Team I have ever had, with 16 total Varsity Mathletes, including some that are brand new to the team this year.  I am very proud of each of them!”

Congratulations to the new and old team members of the Varsity team. We look forward to your next meet.
