The Rivalry Between the Bishop Broncos and Mammoth Huskies.

 

 

The Play by Play.

On Friday September 9, 2016 the Bishop Broncos, battled it out on the field with the Mammoth Huskies. The Bishop Broncos, and the Mammoth Huskies have been playing against each other for 40 years, and counting. This game is one of the most anticipated games, in both Bronco and Huskies season for both the players, coaches, and the communities.  In 1983, the Mammoth Huskies won there first game against the Broncos, and since then the Huskies  have only won six games. One of the head coaches of the Mammoth Huskies, Marty Thompson said “He would take playing college and the NFL just to beat the Bishop Broncos.” Mr. Thompson shares his duties with Tyson Taylor, who is the second head coach for the Huskies. Mammoth alumni Josh Vaith said ” It was something that Mammoth guys wanted to win more than most other games.”

Interview with head coach of the Mammoth Huskies Marty Thompson:

Q:What is it like being the head coach of the Huskies?

A: He shares his duties as a head coach with Tyson Taylor. He also would like to share the experience he had playing for Mammoth High School, with his players on the Huskies team.

Q: Is there any pressure on you to win this game?

A: Just from the players wanting to beat Bishop from going over past stories.

Q: Who were the longest coaches in Husky  history?

A: The longest coaches were Tom Gault, and John McClure.

Q: Are you pushing your boys hard to win this game?

A: Our goals are to beat bishop and to win league, but our main focus is to beat Bishop.

Q:How many times have the Huskies won against Bishop?

A: We have won 6 games in the past 30 years against the Broncos. The last time we won was in 2007.

Q: When was the first time you beat Bishop?

A:The first time we beat Bishop was in 1983.

Q: What league are you in?
A: The league that we are in is Desert Mountain.

Q: With being the head coach of football is there any pressure to win the rivalry game?

A: They try to look at each week the same, but it would be a lie if they treated this week the same. They are a local team that we really get fired up to play.

Q: Approximately  how many games has Bishop lost to Mammoth?

A: “Every times Mammoth wins the Bishop guys always remember it.”

Q: When Mammoth has won are you guys working harder to win the next year?

A: “We always try to do our best, but when you do play a game against a rival there more juice in the game.”

Woodrow R Reynolds Bishop alumni class of 2015 said ” Playing with Mammoth was easy, it was a good time for second string to play.”

Jose Chavez Mammoth alumni class of 1997 said ” In 1996 the Mammoth team was statistically the best team Mammoth had at that time. Mammoth was ranked 2nd and Bishop was ranked 2nd in their divisions. In the end Mammoth lost 38-32.”

Quaid Stone Bishop alumni class of 2015 said “it was always cold when playing Mammoth.” He also said “playing them was always easier then playing in practice.”
