Bishop Wrestlers Crowned CIF Champions

A pair of Bronco seniors, Mark Mayhugh and Tia Barfield , won CIF championships last weekend.  Both are now advancing to the CIF Central Section Masters meet set for Lemoore High School this weekend.

Mayhugh won the 126 pound weight class at the CIF Central Section Division 5 Championships at East Bakersfield high school.  In addition to winning the 126 pound weight class, the Division 5 coaches also voted the Bishop wrestler MVP of the lower weight divisions.   Mayhugh now has a season record of 31-9.

“The feeling of winning this tournament was immense and surreal. After four years of dedicated hard work to achieve this goal, this finally became the stepping stone to my career and will only progress at this point” – Mark Mayhugh

Tia Barfield won the 160 pound weight class at the CIF Central Section Division 2 Girls Championship in Tulare.  Barfield has just one loss in her senior season and will now compete in the CIF Central Section Masters meet this weekend in Lemoore.

The top wrestlers from all the Central Section Division compete in the Master meet with the best of best advancing to the State Championships February 22 and 23 in Bakersfield.
