Ending of Cross Country

Three Bishop athletes competed in the CIF Cross Country State Championships. The competition with some of the best runners in all the state was on Saturday, Nov. 18. Three Bishop high students competed and did a “fantastic job” according to coach Heidi Eldridge.

Martin Cruz is a senior and placed 168 out of 215 boys competing. Cruz finished in the time of 18:07. Eldridge said that Cruz was “battling calf pain and finished the race like a champ!”

Sierra Burror, a sophmore, finished with the time of 19:10 and finished in 28th place. The first place runner Audrey Suarez of Mayfield High finished with a time of 17:44, so Sierra Burror was extremely close.

Rachel Fitt, a sophmore, finished in 78th place out of 209 other girls competing with a time of 20:04. Eldridge says that Fitt was the most consistent runner all year.

The State Championship was the ending of the cross country season and most will start to prepare for track and field in the spring. Great job to all the runners that participated this season.
