Bishop Comes Out on Top in Match-up Against Burroughs

The Broncos showed up ready to do business on Friday and did not disappoint, with both the offense and defense looking the best they have so far this season. The Bronco defense set the tone for the night forcing the Burroughs into a fourth down situation where they were forced to punt, but on the punt attempt, they dropped the ball allowing the Broncos to recover and start with great field position. The offense then drew first blood when they scored on their first play of the drive thanks to a 39 yard run by Junior Luke Mcclean, the only score for either team in the first quarter. The second quarter was all about Ridgecrest though, as they were able to put up 14 courtesy of a 60-yard run, and a 2-yard run that was set up by a long pass, but the Broncos were able to answer with a TD of their own via a fumble recovery in the end zone by Anthony Diaz that was set up by a 78 yard run by Mcclean.

The third quarter saw no score from either side, but in the fourth, the Burroughs looked set to score, starting on the 20-yard line due to them recovering a fumble; however, the Bronco defense buckled down and held them to only a field goal. The Broncos were able to get into the end zone for the winning TD on a 75-yard pass from Sophomore Clay Omohundro to Junior Jaden Braithwaite. This victory was huge for the Broncos as it helps set the tone for Bishop going into league play and it allowed them to bring home the Eastern Sierra Football Classic Trophy, a feat that the Broncos haven’t accomplished in a long time. Coach Palu says that “players and staff were proud of the effort against Burroughs”. They have one more game before they begin league play and “they feel great about the progress they’re making”.  Palu also said that he and the staff are “proud of the way the team handled pressure situations.”  The Broncos will take on Sierra here at home on Friday night at 7 pm, so come out and support your Broncos.
