Varsity Mathletes Take on Trona 2/28/18
March 19, 2018
The BUHS Varsity Mathletes finished strong with another second place finish at the February 28th meet in Trona. With 24 points to their name, the Mathletes were only 5 points behind the first place team, Desert High School. The Mathletes also have two individual placings to their name for this event!
Seniors Jim Tomasek and Dylan Fitt both tied for an individual 3rd place with 6 points. Nathan Gardea, Young Jin Kim, and Kristen Lamb also contributed to the team score, each with 4 points. With approximately 50 students in attendance to the Trona meet, the individual placings are incredibly impressive.
Every meet has its own set of problems that the Mathletes must solve within a designated period of time. Take a look at question 9 from the meet, to get an idea of what the Mathletes had to work with at Trona High School.
The polynomial ax3+bx2+cx + d has zeroes of 3 + 2 and -1. If a, b, c, and d are rational numbers and a = 6, find d.
The Varsity Mathletes have one more meet left in this season, which will be hosted on their home turf on Wednesday, March 21st. They will have one last chance to prove themselves worthy of being the 2017-2018 Varsity Mathletes Champions!
