The Broncos Big Victory Over Yerington
September 1, 2017
Bishop Broncos Beat The Yerington Lions
For the first time in three years the Bishop Varsity Football Team beat Yerington. The Broncos didn’t just beat Yerington they controlled the entire game leaving with a final score of 29-12. In the previous years Yerington was the more physical and dominant team controlling Bishop in every game but this year Bishop was the more dominant team and did to Yerington what Yerington has previously done to Bishop.
In the first half of the game the Bronco defense set the tone of the game by completely shutting down Yerington’s run game not allowing any big runs and forcing Yerington to pass even though Yerington is primarily a run team. With Yerington forced out of their comfort zone the Broncos defense had total control. All game long the Broncos offense continued to grind out rushing yards, running for a total of 239 yards. The passing game was efficient with sophomore quarterback Luke McClean completing 6 of 9 passes for a total of 69 yards.
Senior captain and running-back Mike Molina led the team in rushing grinding out 108 yards. Receiver Lorenzo Parra led the team in receiving yards with a total of 42 yards on two key 2nd half catches. Quarterback Luke McClean was a true dual threat rushing for 79 yards in addition to his passing totals. Linebacker Hunter Beall and defensive end Edward Piper tied for a team lead in tackles with 9 each.
