Broncos down Shafter in 8 inning thriller

The Bishop Bronco softball team advances to the CIF second round with a dramatic walk off win over Shafter. Senior center fielder Haley Hersley, made the play of the game at the top of the eighth setting the stage for the dramatic win. Hersley collided with Alondra Ojeda in left center field but held on for the final out. Fellow senior Vicky Begay then drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eight inning. Begay’s clutch hit scored pinch runner Julie Cepeda giving Bishop the playoff win. Next up for Bishop is a home game Thursday Vs. Firebaugh. The second round game will begin at 3 pm.

Head coach Stacy Van Nest’s post game comments. “What an outstanding come back game for the Broncos. Julie Cepeda was the courtesy runner with the go ahead walk off run. Every girl gave their all and they are playing to the best of their abilities.We are now 16-7-1 and move on to the quarter final HOME game versus Firebaugh at 3:00 on Thursday.”
