The Varsity Boys had a home game Friday night against the Rosamond Roadrunners. Coach Weaver indicates, “We knew it was going to be a tough game, they are a good team and well coached so we had our work cut out for us if we wanted to remain undefeated in League play.”
The first half both teams went back and forth exchanging baskets. We were playing good defense but gave them a lot of second chance opportunities which kept them close. The Romeo’s went in leading at the half 32-30.
Second half was much do the same as the first with both teams not letting up and going back and forth. The Broncos went into the fourth quarter all tied up with the Roadrunners 55-55. This one would come down to the wire with the game tied and under 2 minutes Emory Dondero would come up with a huge basket to put Bishop up 2 with a minute left. After some free throws by Rosamond the game was tied with only time for one shot for Bishop. They were able to get a shot off but couldn’t get it to go so we went to overtime.
In the overtime period the Broncos were able to force a couple turnovers and and get some big baskets from Carlos Sualez, Emory Dondero and after a flagrant foul Elijah Reynolds was able to put the game away with two huge free throws to put the Broncos up by four and walk away with a close win 61-57.
Leading scorers Friday night were Richie Talavera, Carlos Sualez and Emory Dondero all with 13 points, Chris Charley with 10 points, Dom Dondero with 6 points, Jakobe Dondero with 3 points, Elijah Reynolds with 2 points, and Devaun Mitchell with 1 point.
