Good Morning,
The Bishop Boys Varsity Basketball team was at home against the Cal City Ravens Tuesday night in what turned out to be a really hard fought game. Coach Brad Weaver said, “We knew coming into this game it wasn’t going to be easy but if we stuck to our game plan and worked as a team that we could win this game.”
“Bishop got started early which was a good sign as I’m hoping we got over the hump of starting games slow, Weaver Said. We picked up where we left off with Emory Dondero and Chris Charley coming out strong in the first quarter with Charley putting up 7 and Dondero with 4 and Elijah Reynolds adding 2. Bishop ended the first quarter up 13-9. Second quarter the Broncos got scoring and rebounding from Carlos Sualez and Devaun Mitchell which helped us take the lead into the half 25-22.”
The third quarter was the lowest scoring quarter for both teams with the Broncos scoring 9 and the Ravens scoring just 5. The Broncos led 34-27 to start the fourth quarter. Both teams had their highest scoring quarters of the game and went back and forth trading baskets. The Broncos got scoring from 5 different players along with some key defensive stops coming down the stretch. Senior Chris Charley led scoring in the fourth quarter with 5 points and had the two biggest points of the night coming from 2 made free throws while up 1 with 5 seconds left. The Ravens weren’t able to get off a shot on those five seconds because of the Broncos tough defense. The Broncos got a big win 50-47 and remain undefeated in league play.
We played good team defense and were able to get balanced scoring from guys which helped us pull this one out.
Leading the way in scoring was Senior Chris Charley with 14 points followed by Devaun Mitchell, Carlos Sualez and Richie Talavera all with 8 points, Emory Dondero had 7 points, Elijah Reynolds with 4, and Dom Dondero added 1 point.
The Broncos will be at home again Friday night when they take on the Boron Bobcats with tip off at 7:30
