The Bishop Broncos improved to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in High Desert League play with a 34-6 win over Boron Friday night. The Broncos opened the night celebrating their seniors before the HDL opening game. The Broncos opened the scoring with an Elliott Douda 50-yard punt return touchdown after the Bobcats went 3 and out on their opening drive.
Quarterback Emory Dondero connected with Carlos Sualez on a pair of long touchdowns (60 and 42 yards) and threw a 22 yard touchdown to Richie Talavera helping the Broncos to a 27-0 halftime lead. At the half, the BUHS class of 1978 honored their late classmate and former Bronco Football Coach Bobby Tanner by presenting the check in his honor.
Tanner, the JV offensive coordinator, passed away this past summer. In the second half Dondero connected with senior Milton Michel for a 20-yard touchdown pass capping the Bronco scoring. Dondero was a very efficient 11 of 17 passing for 226 yards. Sualez caught 5 passes for 156 yards. Defensively the Broncos were led by Senior Nelo Dondero who recorded 6 solo tackles and picked off a pass.
Milton Michel had 5 solo tackles including a tackle for a loss and blocked a bobcat PAT kick. Senior Nik Calderon added 5 solo tackles and recovered an on-side kick. The Bronco defensive line had a strong night with Malachi Orrick recoding 3 solo tackles including two for a loss.
Yarrow Holmes, Dre Garnder, and Layton Henry Rossi each had a pair of tackles. Joe Lent batted down a pass and Manny Moreno had a QB hurry and an assist. The Broncos will be on the road the next two weeks with trips to California City and Desert. The next home game is Friday, October 25 with the homecoming game with rival Kern Valley.
