Choir Being Cut and What You Can Do
February 27, 2017
Choir is being cut by next year and tons of students are absolutely devastated. Choir has changed my life personally and created an artistic outlet that is now being taken away. Diana Lanane has given her blood, sweat, and tears and devoted her time and patience each year to make sure our choir phenomenal at competition and has changed the lives of hundreds of students. I do not think it is fair to cut this program that does so much good for our school. While this is devastating news, there is something that we can do. Thursday 3/2 there is a board meeting at 5:30 at Bishop Union High School in the new tech center where we can state our grievances and see what we can do to change the outcome of choir. Choir is not on the agenda but there will be a public comment period where we can speak out about choir. I encourage everyone to come and show their support.

I’m very disappointed to hear about one of the two performing arts courses being dropped. The LAO isn’t proposing any dramatic state funding changes for the district level (education budget proposals are all found here: http://www.lao.ca.gov/Policy-Areas?areaId=4 ) and Inyo county property tax revenue apportionment has increased in the past three years, so it doesn’t appear to be a budget issue, but rather one of priorities.
Please consider attending the board meeting and expressing respectful but meaningful impact on your students at the board meeting. We may ask that the issue be agendized for the next meeting, so that deliberation may take place.
Thank you.
