On Saturday, eight Bishop Broncos wrestled at the Last Chance Tournament in El Monte. The Broncos that went to the tournament were sophomores Kano Graves, Blake Braaten, Mikey Trejo and freshmen Elbert Montoya, Wayland Schultz, Jaidyn McKellips, Daxen Svacina and Byron Gustie. Two Broncos Kano Graves and Mikey Trejo made it to the finals. Kano Graves pinned his opponent in the finals earning a 1st place finish. Mikey Trejo at 165 pounds lost in the finals finishing in 2nd place. Jaidyn McKellips, also wrestling at 165 pounds, finished in 5th place. Other Broncos with wins were Wayland Schultz with two and Elbert Montoya and Byron Gustie with one win. Head coach Mark Hodges said, “Overall, the level of competition was just what the team is needed at this point in the season. As a team, we had an impressive performance, finishing in 14th place out of over 30 teams”. The next action for the team will be a dual meet with Kern Valley at Kern Valley on January 31st.

My name is Jason Mullner, and I am a Senior at Bishop Union High School. I was born in Upland, California on April 18th, 2006. I am half Peruvian and half white. I moved around a lot when I was little starting from sunny Southern California in the cities of Upland, Ontario, and Rancho Cucamonga to moving to Bishop, California. I moved to Bishop when I was 13 and have been here ever since. I am a student-athlete and play football, my positions are tight end and outside linebacker. I like to hang out with friends and go to the gym in my free time. This is my first year in Bronco RoundUp and I'm looking forward to being in this class.
