This past weekend saw the 8 teams left battle for spots in their respective division’s championship games. On Saturday, the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans faced off in Baltimore with the Ravens swiftly coming out victorious with a score of 34-10. Lamar Jackson, the Raven’s quarterback, threw for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns. He completed 16 out of his 22 pass attempts. The other game on Saturday featured the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers playing in San Francisco. It was a very close game that ultimately came down to the missed field goal from Green Bay. San Francisco won 24-21. Both quarterbacks had respectable games but the player who deserves recognition is Christian McCaffrey, the 49ers running back who ran for 98 yards and 2 touchdowns.
On Sunday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Detroit Lions saw each other in Detroit where it was a tie game going into the 4th quarter. The Lions brought everything that quarter and won the game 31-23. Despite Mike Evans’ spectacular game receiving for the Buccaneers with 147 yards and a touchdown, Baker Mayfield, the quarterback threw 2 interceptions on the day which contributed to their loss.
The final game of the Divisional round took place yesterday and it was a highly anticipated rematch between the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs. These 2 teams have battled each other in the past few post-seasons with Kansas City always coming out on top. This year the games was played in Buffalo and unfortunately for the Bills the story remained the same. The Chiefs scraped by the Bills 27-24. The dramatic game had a dramatic end with Buffalo’s kicker Tyler Bass missing a 44 yard field goal that would have tied the game at 27. Despite the losing effort, Bills quarterback Josh Allen had a great game throwing for 186 yards and a touchdown while also running for 72 yards and 2 touchdowns. Next Sunday will bring both the AFC Championship game with Baltimore and Kansas City fighting for a spot in the Superbowl and the NFC Championship game with San Francisco and Detroit fighting for a spot.
