Bishop Broncos Varsity Basketball traveled to Kern Valley yesterday to open up League play against the Kern Valley Broncs. The Broncos came out ready to play and went up 17-8 at the end of the first quarter. They would battle on through the second quarter, both teams scoring 12 points. Broncos would go into halftime with a 29-20 lead. They came out strong in 3rd quarter and would open the lead up by 14 by the end of the quarter. They outscored the Broncs in the fourth and would end up winning the game with a score of 60-40.
Leading the way in scoring were Ty Arcularius, Chris Charley, and Wokoba Spoonhunter who all had 14 points, Aaron Astorga had 6 points, Elijah Reynolds and Brady Kalk both had 5 points, and Richie Talavera with 2 points.
Their coach, Brad Weaver, said, “We had a great defensive game from every one of our guys last night and it led to good shots and layups on the offensive end. We had some foul trouble early with Chris Charley, one of our top players picking up 3 in the first half. We needed other guys to step up and that’s what happened. Wokoba Spoonhunter, Brady Kalk, Aaron Astorga, and Elijah Reynolds are just a few of the guys who stepped it up when we needed them. This was a great team win and a good start to league play that hopefully we can build off of and keep playing tough. The boys can finally get a little break after playing 11 games in the last 13 days.”
The next game will be Tuesday at home against the Mammoth Huskies.
