Bronco Varsity volleyball went on the road Tuesday night coming home with a hard fought 5 game win over Kern Valley. The league opening match came down to the fifth game with Bishop winning 17-15. Coach Linda Frigerio describes the Kern Valley atmosphere as extremely hot and very loud. The Broncos were able to overcome the obstacles and claim their first High Desert League win.
Coach Frigerio indicates the team started off slowly in game one but came out with a 25-22 win. Kern Valley bounded back winning game two 25-20. Frigerio reports that the Broncos played their best volleyball in game three, winning 25-15. Kern Valley answered back, winning game four 25-19. The Broncos won the fifth and deciding game in a “nail biter” with the teams going back and forth before the Broncos won the deciding game 17-15.
Individual highlights include Senior Lilly Morrison and Junior Liz Ellsworth leading the team in hitting with positive hitting percentages and 6 and 5 kills respectively. Morrison also led the team in serving with 94% and 4 aces. Sophomores Riley Van Nest and Sophie Dishion stepped up to support the team with Van Nest’s 19 assists and Dishion’s 35 serve receptions.
Next up for the Broncos is a home game with Frazier Mt. this Thursday.
