A longtime Spanish Teacher here at BUHS, Mrs. De la Mora retired at the end of last year, and Mrs. Frigerio moved to the Special Education department, so two new Spanish teachers were hired. Ms. Ablanedo, and Mrs. Hershdorfer. I recently had the chance to interview them so let’s find out more about our new Spanish department.
Ms. Ablanedo taught 5th-grade Spanish dual immersion for 17 years at the elementary school and has taught in 8 different Spanish-speaking countries before coming to BUHS. Now she teaches Spanish II, Spanish III, and Spanish IV. She also teaches a class of ELD. Her classroom can be located on the top floor of the main building in Mrs. De la Mora’s old classroom. She has two daughters who both attend BUHS. She also owns two cats. Ablanedo likes to hike in her spare time and She has hiked in Yosemite, Mammoth, and all over the Sierras. She even has walked across Spain.
Mrs. Hershdorfer previously taught at Big Pine Middle and High School before coming to BUHS. She now teaches Spanish 1 and 2 here. Before her teaching career, she was a Biologist and traveled to many Spanish-speaking countries. Hershdorfer also has two daughters as well and she owns two dogs. Like Ablanedo, she likes to hike, and she likes backpacking with her dogs. Her classroom can be located next to Ms. Ablanedo’s room on the top floor, next to the ramp. She teaches in Mrs. Frigerio’s old classroom.
Ablanedo and Hershdorfer have known each other for a long time and are best friends and the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree as their daughters are also friends. They are delighted to work together, and excited to be teaching here at BUHS.
