2016 CIF Cross Country Winning Coach, Heidi Eldridge

Alixea Sigler

Heidi Eldridge has been the Bishop Broncos Cross Country coach for 3 years. She also ran cross country in high school, and “loved it.” Some of the best races this year, are “home races because it’s so nice having parent support! And winning CIF was pretty cool as well.” The training usually consisted of a “one long run a week, track workout for speed, hills, and some easy 30 minute runs combined with core exercises.” The toughest workout for the team was “running in the heat at the beginning of the season.”

The rivalry this year for the Bishop Broncos was the “Rosamond Roadrunners and ourselves.” There strategy is to “train hard, avoid injuries, and make state.” Some words of wisdom that Heidi would like to give to future cross country runners is “If you want to be a runner, you’ve got to run and i mean consistently. If you want to be good at running,  you have to put the effort into your workouts and push yourself. No-one can do it for you. Great runners are disciplined, they are tough not only physically but mentally.”
