Blake Jones Trout Derby Delayed

Bishop Blake Jones yearly fishing Derby is postponed until May 13th due to current weather conditions and warnings for flash floods and snow storms throughout the valley.

The Blake Jones Fishing derby is an attraction to many people around the United States. The Bishop Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau are hoping for a good day of fishing on this rescheduled day in the hydrated Owens valley.

According to the Bishop Chamber of Commerce the Blake Jones Trout Derby features over $10K in cash & prizes.  The annual derby is described as one of California’s largest single-day trout derbies. Registration, check-in and prize ceremony at Tri-County Fairgrounds. Fishing at Pleasant Valley Reservoir and Owens River. Blind Bogey format with prizes for all ages.

The Chamber indicates that the event has been held since 1968. According to the Chamber, last year, nearly 400 registered participants weighed in more than 500 fish. The largest was 5 pounds and most were in the 1-pound range. Lucky winners took home about $10K worth of prizes including float tubes, Yeti coolers, barbecues, rod & reel combos and tons of other gear provided by the event’s ever-generous co-sponsors.
