Broncos JV Basketball is Hungry for that HDL Title

Broncos boys JV basketball is in the hunt for the High Desert League championship title with half the season to go. The Broncos led by first year coach Matt Kemp had a very successful pre-season loosing just one game and are currently undefeated in HDL play.

November 19th and 20th:  The Broncos traveled to Arvin for a round robin summer league rules tournament. They played 3 schools with enrollments of over 1500 kids and came away with 2 wins and 1 loss. They took 8 kids down with only 1-2 weeks of practice as football just ended. Five freshmen: Will Kemp, Richie Talavera, Emory Dondero, Charlie Lewis, Brodie Banning and three sophomores:  Elijah Reynolds, Brady Kalk and Weston Dondero. The first game Broncos won by 4 with Will Kemp and Brady Kalk leading the scoring. The second game they  lost by 5 with Elijah Reynolds and Brady Kalk leading the scoring. The third game they  won by 30 and everyone contributed a lot. The team says It was a fun preseason tournament and the kids all played well.

 In the next preseason match up they split up the 18 man roster into two teams and played a round robin against Lone Pine. One squad beat Lone Pine 41-26. Elijah had 13 and Richie added 11 to lead the way in that game. The other squad lost 37-29. Brady had 9 and Emory had 8 to lead the way for that team.

 That was it for the Broncos preseason.

 The Broncos are 6-0 in league going into the second half of the season. Coach Matt Kemp indicates that everyone has improved tremendously since the start of the season.
