The Top 10 Best Thanksgiving Foods
November 15, 2016
The holiday of gratitude is just around the corner, Thanksgiving! There are many wonderful things to be thankful about not just at this time, but all year round. Family, friends, nature, TV shows, books, movies, and of course, the food are all just some of the amazing gifts we should be thankful for. In this article I will be focusing on the most scrumptious and delicious foods people traditionally eat for Thanksgiving. I personally love Thanksgiving food, but not everyone does so feel free to comment down below what your Thanksgiving feast will consist of this year, conventional food or not it doesn’t matter. Without further ado here we go!
- Turkey and Dressing
The main course and symbol of Thanksgiving is of course, the turkey! The turkey cannot be dry and bland, but should be full of seasonings and flavor. I personally love to have my turkey with a bit of gravy and cranberry sauce but even just the turkey by itself should be delicious.
- Mashed Potatoes and Gravy
This is a classic Thanksgiving side dish and one of my personal favorites! The gravy has to be absolutely succulent and should be creamy in texture, not gluey. As for the potatoes, I actually like mine to be a bit more on the lumpy side and maybe with a little garlic. If that’s not really your style you can always go with just the classic creamy texture and plain mashed potatoes.
- Green Bean Casserole
I myself am not a huge fan of any type of casserole, but when a green bean casserole is done right, I can dig in. One of my pet peeves is when a casserole is soggy, so the green bean casserole should be not too dry, but moist. I think the fried onions should be more on the subtle side, and the green beans should really be the focal point of the dish.
- Stuffing
The stuffing is a little less important than the turkey in my opinion, but I still think stuffing is very underappreciated. I like my stuffing to consist of rosemary, sage, salt, pepper, celery, onions, thyme, parsley, and of course bread. I love it when the stuffing is slightly on the crispy side rather than have the bread remain soft.
- Cranberry Sauce
This is probably the most important sauce of Thanksgiving. The cranberry sauce can be covered on anything on the dinner table. Some people like their cranberry sauce to be more on the tart side, but I personally like mine to be as sweet as possible. Also try to make your own cranberry sauce, but if you cannot, canned cranberry sauce will suffice.
- Sweet Potato Casserole
Now we get to some of my favorite dishes of Thanksgiving, the desserts! I enjoy sweet potato casserole immensely more than green bean casserole solely because this is a sweet and light dish. The marshmallows are what I think really make the dish. This dessert is gooey and delectable without being too sticky and messy.
- Pumpkin Pie
Now we’re onto the pies of Thanksgiving! Pumpkin pie is the most famous and well known dessert of Thanksgiving and for good reason. This pie has a bit of spice and sweetness to it. I personally cover my entire slice with whipped cream as well.
- Pecan Pie
This decadent dessert is also a wonderful pie to be thankful for. This pie is sweet and can be made with molasses or maple syrup and always guarantees a sweet bite of heaven.
- Apple Pie
Apple pie is a classic and well beloved dessert. I like my apple pie to have a nice crispy crust with warm and flavorful apples within. I do not like my apple pie to be full of artificial syrup. Serve each slice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and you are ready to go!
- Mud Pie
If you’re not really a pie person, this dessert is for you! This mud pie is perfect for anyone who is more of a cake lover. This pie has a cookie crumb crust, a chocolate pudding filling or just a vanilla cream base if you prefer, and whipped cream with even more cookie crumbs to top it all off. This is the sweetest pie you’ll ever have for Thanksgiving.
Thanks for reading! I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving full of good food, family, and friends!

Speak my mind? Oh I will. I definitely think that casseroles are an abomination to Thanksgiving culture and this country. Pie is good, but four pies on Thanksgiving? 2 much 4 me. I feel attackeddfb but I still loved it. 5 stars
