Let’s Celebrate: What We Are Thankful For

What We Are Thankful For

The fall season is in full swing, and with it comes the petrichor from damp leaves and light showers, the foamy layer of goodness topping a savory Pumpkin Spice latte, and foggy, cold mornings that one happily wakes to see. Many describe autumn as their favorite season – and it is without a doubt one of the best. The neutral weather, over-sized sweaters in place of tank tops or thick jackets, and the crunch of leaves below your feet make fall an aesthetically-pleasing season to live through for 3 months. The season’s iconic holidays, Halloween and Thanksgiving, are yet another addition to Fall’s wonderful list of reasons it is just perfect. With Thanksgiving festivities quickly approaching, and with it a multitude of dishes to try and savor, I asked some of my fellow Bronco Roundup team members to answer the things that they are thankful for this year.
Grace Griego, co-founder of the BrocBros and known for her quality Top 10 lists, told me she was thankful for her friends, family, pets, food, and media. She noted that she is most thankful, in the food realm, for Italian food and pizza. I asked her to elaborate on the media aspect, and she stated that she meant anything in the realm of entertainment. For example, in books, she described Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass as “pretty dank”. She also enthusiastically stated that she is “ready” for the movies Doctor Strange and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
I asked the Bronco Roundup FFA representative, Peyton Hersley, what things he is thankful for, and he quickly named off “food, family, my phone, and especially my mom.” Peyton’s favorite food, he described, is “ooh…everything.” But, if he had to choose, “probably pizza. Most likely pizza.” Peyton says he is especially thankful for his mom because “she gave me life, she gave birth to me” and “because she does everything…she spends all her money and energy for me and my sister.”
Paige Lary, Bronco Roundup ASB Representative and the one who bring you the Mammoth Mountain Snow Report, told me she was thankful for “living in a country where I am not oppressed…my parents because they do a lot for me,…thankful that my family has access to food and shelter, I go to school and have the ability to achieve my dreams, and that I live in such a beautiful area.” She elaborated that although she is not exactly sure what her dreams are at the moment, she is happy because she has an education to back whatever she decides to do. Paige also says that she finds the mountains here beautiful and majestic. She also loves snowboarding, so that just makes her “all about the mountains.”
Finally, but certainly not the least, I interviewed Mr. Palu about the things he is thankful for this year. He is thankful for the students and staff at BUHS for making the transition to his job more enjoyable, his wife for helping him through the transition as well. He also mentioned he is thankful for his football team, because “they’ve shown great teamwork and compassion and love for each other, which is very encouraging.” He stated that the students and staff have made him feel very welcome to his job. All in all, he is exceptionally grateful for his job and the people who have allowed him to feel comfortable within it.
As you can see, we at the Bronco Roundup vary in the things that we are thankful for. From upcoming movies, to the hardworking football team, it is no wonder that our staff reflect the diversity of our student and staff body.
