Tia Barfield Brings Home Bronze for UCLA

Former Bishop Bronco wrestler Tia Barfield, who now wrestles for UCLA, finished in 3rd place in the women’s NCWA National Championships last Saturday.  Barfield, a 2019 BUHS Graduate is a Freshman wrestling at 170 pounds, Barfield pinned every opponent including the number 1 seed. Her only loss was in the championship semifinals match. She is believed to be the first ex-Bronco to ever wrestle on the national stage.

On her way to Nationals, she finished in 1st place in California and 1st in the Western Regionals.

Mark Hodges, her Bronco coach, said, “Many of Tia’s friends and family got to watch her wrestle live on the flowrestling website. My wife and I were getting strange looks from our dog as we were cheering and yelling at the computer. We are all so happy for her.”
