“Black Lives Matter TOO”
September 28, 2016
In today’s day and age there are various controversies going on, one of them being the “Black Lives Matter” movement. Many people have their opinion and take on this movement. Just like Colin Kaepernick and Megan Rapinoe who refuse to stand for the national anthem. Many say that both are doing it for publicity, others say they have good intentions of using their fame as a way to stand up for their people. The phrase “black lives matter” has been a constant cry for help. The founders of the movement, Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi are seeking a new chapter for black male and female violence as well as discrimination. Although most of the protesting to date is centered around police brutality, there are other issues in this category, which most likely will be pushed in coming years. One of the issues is our corrupt system of public education, which leads black youth to follow a path from school to prison, states the Justice Policy Institute’s website.
To many the statement “black lives matter” makes others assume that the movement is an anti-white proposition. But what some do not realize is that there is a “too” the phrase which was put for a feeling of inclusion instead of exclusion. So for those who imply that this movement is racist, I am here to tell you , you are frankly mistaken. The reason there is not a white people matter movement or even a Korean people matter movement is basically because the numbers of black males being discriminated and hurt brutally is tripled according to US edition. Those supporting the movement are just looking for their lives to be valued just like any other.
