Gabe Bell Cross Country Star
October 3, 2019
Junior Gabe Bell finished first place in the opening High Desert League Cross Country meet. The competition was hosted by Frazier Mountain high school. Bell not only finished first individually but led the Broncos to a team victory as well. We had a chance to catch up for a question and answer with him.
Q:When did you feel you gained a passion for running?
I feel like I’ve always been interested in running, I just never pursued it until freshman year of high school. I think I realized that I really loved the sport last summer of training when I would run with one of my best friends every morning.
Q:How do you prepare for a long distance run?
I prepare for a run with getting enough sleep, at least about 8 hours or so, staying hydrated, and just eating well. There’s a lot of other mindset things too, depending on the type of run.
Q:Is there any nutrition that goes into training for Cross Country?
Nutrition is a big factor for preparing to run well. If you eat real food and and drink tons of water you’ll always feel better than eating junk food. It also helps your body recover better so you need that.
Q:What’s one thing you would have never thought you’d like about cross country
One thing I never thought I would’ve liked about cross country is basically making myself suffer everyday, I still sometimes don’t like it when I’m doing it, but I always love it after.
