Health Clinic Open, Tuesday
March 13, 2019
Healthy Body is a Healthy Mind
Colleen McEvoy is a pediatrician at Northern Inyo Hospital. She is now coming to Bishop Union High School every week on Tuesday. She is here all day on Tuesday. You can make appointments with her.
What made you come this year?
“Do you mean why did I start the clinic? I really like adolescents and I am interested in trying to make them healthier and happier. I worked at a school-based clinic in Oakland before I moved to Bishop and I think it is a great way to care for teens. If you are in the school where they are every day you can help them learn how to access care on their own and help make it easier for them to get the services they need.“
How did you come up with this idea?
“I worked at a school-based health center in Oakland, Ca run by a non-profit clinic La Clinica de la Raza https://www.laclinica.org/services-adolescent.html . They run several school-based clinics in the Bay Area. There are almost 250 school-based health centers in California that offer similar services. There is a California School-Based Health Alliance if you want more information.”
Why only Tuesday?
“Right now we are only offering services on Tuesday since we just started. We are hoping that by next year we will be able there 1.5 – 2 days a week. Tuesday is a good day for me to be out of the pediatric office where I primarily work since we are not as busy on Tuesday’s.”
