Bronco Boys Look to Build Off Thier Success From Last Season

With pitchers and catchers reporting, what better time than now to check up on our own baseball team. This year looks to be another promising one with a solid squad after the Bronco’s bitter defeat in the CIF championship game last year. The team has a veteran staff this year with returning seniors on the team, Michael Kubiak, Matthew Rosga, Cal Omohundro, Jalen Watterson, Austin Thomas, Brady Womack, and Mark Mayhugh, most of which played in the championship game last year. The team also has some newcomers in the form of seniors  Landon Harper, Anthony Chavez.

The Bronco infield looks to be a strong part of the team again this year with Watterson and Ace Selters at first, Rosga and Gillem at second, Kube at short, and Cal and Wesley Pettet at third. Mayhugh and Gillem will have some big shoes to fill behind the plate, taking over for the now-graduated Brodie Maloney who was a vital part of the team on defense as well as the offense last season.

The Broncos definitely aren’t going to suffer at all on the mound with a strong rotation led by Thomas, Rosga, Omohundro, and Watterson with the addition of sophomores Landon Kruse and Selters. The rotation will have additional support from Kubiak in the bullpen.

The outfield will consist of the rest of the players on the team like Kruse, Watterson, Mayhugh or Gillem (depending on who is catching that day), Clay Omohundro, and Pettet.

The offense looks to also be another strong component of the team with guys that work gap-to-gap with high RBI numbers like Kube and Rosga, and guys that power the ball out like Watterson and Cal. Hitters like Kruse, Gillem, Pettet, and Clay provide a lot of consistency and give guys chances to drive them in, while raking up extra bases too.

The season starts next Friday during their first showing at the Yerington tournament. The Bronco Boys are looking strong this year and are sure to impress next week.
