Top 10 Halloween Movies
By: Grace Griego
My all time favorite holiday is just around the corner! Halloween is just about a week away and it is time to get spooky. Whether you are going trick-or-treating or staying home this Halloween, these top 10 Halloween movies are sure to make your Halloween a blast. I will be excluding horror movies from this list because horror movies deserve their own separate top 10 list. In this article I will be focussing more on movies that encompass the spirit of Halloween. Let me know in the comments below if I missed one of your favorite movies.
- The Nightmare Before Christmas
This is a Halloween classic. Tim Burton crafted a magical world of both whimsy and horror. This movie has great characters, an amazing soundtrack, and a wonderful plot. While I admit I was scared of this movie as a child, I have now grown to love it!
- Beetlejuice
Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! This is another wonderful movie from Tim Burton that is sure to both scare and make the audience laugh. This late 80s movie has some interesting special effects, but is an all over timeless movie with an extremely talented cast.
- Edward Scissorhands
This gothic movie tells the tale of the surprisingly sweet Edward Scissorhands. The audience will be swept away by Johnny Depp’s portrayal of this misunderstood character and will both laugh and cry. There is still enough of a creep factor to provide sufficient chills for this Halloween.
- Halloween Town
If you grew up watching Disney Channel, you are sure to be hit by a wave of nostalgia by this title. Halloweentown is surprisingly heartwarming at times, outright goofy at others, and is just an all over great Halloween treat. What it lacks in special effects, it makes up for with a great Disney plot.
- Hocus Pocus
Hocus Pocus is another Disney Halloween classic! This movie surprised me with its wit and, at times, adult humor while still maintaining that Disney charm. The movie holds a special place in many Halloween enthusiasts’ hearts.
- Coraline
Coraline is outright terrifying. This movie haunted me as a child and I absolutely loved it. Coraline is beautifully animated, has an amazing plot, and will terrify both children and adults.
- Corpse Bride
Another personal favorite of mine, the Corpse Bride! This movie is another fantastic creation from the wonderfully twisted mind of Tim Burton. Corpse Bride freaked me out and yet made me care for the characters so deeply. This Halloween movie will be a rollercoaster of emotions.
- ParaNorman
This is another great movie from Laika. This movie has enough zombies and jokes to keep everyone entertained, and yet has a surprisingly solid plot and good message. There is humor for kids, adults, and any horror movie fanatic.
- Monster House
I never knew I could be so utterly terrified of a house until this movie. This movie plays off of the classic haunted house cliche, except the house itself is LITERALLY haunted and possesses the soul of a person. This movie can actually be quite frightening at times, but still maintains its humor and wit throughout the movie.
- Warm Bodies
Last on my list is Warm Bodies! This zombie flick stars the strangely loveable zombie, R. R just wants to remember what it was like to be alive, which is kinda hard to do considering he’s dead and can’t remember a thing from his past. This zombie movie has romance, witty humor, and pretty decent special effects.
Those were my top 10 Halloween movies for this year! I hope you enjoyed and be sure to comment if you agreed with my choices, disagreed, or if I left out any of your favorite spooky movies. Happy Halloween!

i think you could find some better Halloween movies if you move away from the pg, pg-13 movies, like the Halloween movies or maybe nightmare on elm street

Thanks for the feedback! As I stated earlier in my article, I did not list any horror movies because those deserve their own separate top 10 list and horror movies are generally rated R, so I chose to focus on PG and PG-13 movies. If I were to do a top 10 horror movies list I would definitely put the Halloween movies and Nightmare on Elm Street on it, though! Thanks again for reading.

HOCUS POCUS IS THE MOVIE OF OUR LIFETIME. THIS MOVIE SHOULD BE NUMBER 1. YOU ARE WRONG!!!111!!!! I am thoroughly disappointing in the lack of education this generation is given. This is a classic movie with more life lessons than any English “class” or philosophy “class” can even provide. Completely and utterly disgusted.
